Feeling tired and sluggish, iron tablets not working?

Concerned About Low Iron?

Iron deficiency occurs when the body’s iron stores are lower than required. Iron is needed to produce haemoglobin, which helps red blood cells carry oxygen around the body.

Some people with low iron may experience symptoms such as:

  • Tiredness or weakness

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Shortness of breath

  • Headaches or dizziness

  • Reduced exercise tolerance

These symptoms can have many causes and do not necessarily mean that you have iron deficiency. A health practitioner may recommend blood tests and further assessment to determine the cause of your symptoms

Assessment & Treatment Options

Your doctor can provide consultations for patients with suspected or confirmed iron deficiency or iron-deficiency anaemia.

During your consultation, your doctor will review your symptoms, medical history and relevant test results. Where appropriate, they may also investigate why your iron level is low.

Treatment options vary according to your individual circumstances and may include dietary changes, oral supplements or another medically appropriate treatment. Your doctor will discuss the available options, expected benefits, possible risks and any alternatives with you.

Not every treatment is suitable for every patient. A particular treatment cannot be recommended or provided until you have been clinically assessed by a suitably qualified health practitioner.

Preparing for your Appointment
  • Please bring any recent blood-test results and an up-to-date list of your medications and supplements. Further testing may be required before treatment can be recommended.

  • To arrange an assessment, please contact the clinic or book a standard GP consultation.

  • Important: Seek prompt medical advice if you experience severe shortness of breath, chest pain, fainting, significant bleeding or rapidly worsening symptoms.
